Do I need a permit to remodel my Seattle kitchen?
If you are only replacing cabinets and finishes, usually no. The moment you move a wall, change plumbing locations or add circuits, yes — and in Seattle the electrical and plumbing permits are separate from the building permit. We pull all of them.
My house has knob-and-tube wiring. Is that a problem?
It is common in Seattle homes built before 1950 and it is not automatically unsafe, but most insurers want it gone and any wall we open has to be brought up to current code. We price the rewiring you actually need, not the whole house, unless the whole house needs it.
How long does a Seattle remodel take start to finish?
For a kitchen: roughly two weeks of design and estimating, two weeks of permit review for a simple scope, then eight to eleven weeks of construction. Structural changes push permit review out considerably.
